Swedish Relaxation Massage

is one of the most common and well-known massage techniques. It is tremendously relaxing and is designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation.

Five basic strokes, all flowing toward the heart, are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body. Therapists use a combination of kneading, rolling, vibration, percussive, and tapping movements, with the application of oil, to reduce friction on the skin.

There are many benefits of this massage. These include generalized relaxation and improved circulation, which may speed healing and reduce swelling from injury. The greatest benefit is that of relaxation and a good Swedish massage provides relaxation benefits that makes it feel like a ‘treat.’ Yet, these benefits are so profound one must consider them healing.

Traditional by nature, many therapists do not do specific relaxation massage any longer. As their skills progress, they incorporate a wide variety of techniques to enhance their client’s experience. However, as a stand alone treatment, the circular nature of the strokes is what creates the deep relaxation a client feels after their session.
